Golf Blogs

With so many talented people writing informative and entertaining golf blogs nowadays, the Rankmark staff would like to share a few that have gotten our attention. We are also awarding a "Blog of the Week" to reward a chosen blogger with some special recognition for their efforts.

GrouchyGolf
"A weblog not afraid to opine or offend about that ridiculous game called golf." and "I love golf but I hate it almost as much." Not much we can add to those statements except to say that you need to pay this site a visit. It is written by a real golfer that knows golf - the good and the bad.

TheGolfBlog.com
This blog integrates video beautifully. We really liked "Why Carolyn Bivens should not resign", and "Have there ever been any truly great golf siblings?". Also, this is first blog that we can recall that has sorted their archive in ascending date order. A small touch, but we like different!

Golf Spin Doctor
The "Under The Microscope” as well as the "Bet your balls" features caught our attention. The font on the site is quite small, so you may end up with eye strain, but the entertaining content makes it worthwhile.

Golf Blog New Zealand
From what we can see, this blog is quite new. That said, we are all in favor of more golf blogs and want to help whenever we can. We would love to see more coverage of New Zealand's golf courses and what it is like to play golf there. Keep up the good work!

Previous Weeks

Real Women Golf
Previous Winner! If there is one thing that golf blogs need its more women writing content (hint: guys, consider having a women golfer write for your blog). Heather notes on her blog, “Look How Much I Wrote!” - Even better, its good stuff! We really liked the “How I became a golfer” stories.

Aussie Golfer
We love the simplicity of this blog. It features stories about all aspects of Australian golf with a healthy dose of news from the rest of the golfing world. There is a post on fun golf terms used in Australia that is very “colorful”. We found it quite funny!

Golf Potato
“I'm a simple man of equal parts comfort and endearing laziness.” Very interesting outlook that we find quite appealing! We especially like the observations and commentary on pro golfers.

Styled To A Tee
There is a golf blog out there for everyone. Styled to a tee is focused on the “fashion-conscious” golfer. But in fact, most of the site discusses golf in general; there is a particularly touching and well written article on Phil & Amy Mickelson.

Bushwood Country Club
PREVIOUS WINNER! This site is packed with great content. That said it is not overwhelming and very easy on the eye. The content is well written, quite provocative and frequently updated. Take the time to read posts from earlier in 2009 and 2008. They are quite informative and chuckle worthy.

Punch Bowl Golf
One of the reasons that we launched blog of the week was to highlight sites that have great content, but golfers may not know about. Punchbowl golf is a perfect example. The site focuses exclusively on golf site design. Beautiful photography and great insight on golf course design makes this site a “must visit”

addicted2golf.net
Addicted to golf site notes that they are “obsessed with golf”, however, we see a human side. “….for now I’m content playing for the pure enjoyment of the sport. It is also a great way to spend some quality time with friends and family.” Great golf related content from a guy that does not take himself too seriously.

On Par - All about golf in Australia
This site dates back to October 2005, a lifetime in golf blog terms. Since this site is based in Australian, the content has a “down under” feel. For those of you that are interested in playing golf in Australia, this may be a great site to begin your research.

Niceballz
Previous Winner! A relatively new blog, yet in a very short time, they have created some very engaging content. Similar to other blogs that have won or been featured, NiceBallz is not afraid to be controversial. Even the site name is quite striking! Many of the posts are written in different styles or voices. Some are more interesting and engaging than others, but we really like the willingness to experiment. We liked “The Front 9 of Twitter Do's for PGA & LPGA Tweeps”. In fact, we shared it on Twitter hoping that the PGA pros would read. Keep up the good work!

Out-and-Back.net
The first thing that we noticed about this site is the look. It feels like a magazine. This is no accident. “This site is an attempt to bring some of the qualities that readers enjoy in a printed magazine–among them strong writing, an editorial point-of-view, a commitment to clarity and accuracy–to the Web.” We were most impressed with the post “Golf Version 2.0”. Very thought provoking and exceptionally well written.

Golf in the Field of Time
This site offers such a unique connection to golf, we had to include. “Golf in the Field of Time (GiFT1) tells the story of a 17-year-old’s attempt to scratch out some understanding of his place in this world. It is an unsentimental rendering of a youth’s anxieties while traversing the brutally harsh wild.” Periodically, a chapter is published on the site. The concept is very interesting and connects to golf in a very unusual manner.

BarryRhodes.com
Barry is all about rules. We think that the rules of golf add to the special nature of the game. We especially like his post on “Why is it important to learn the Rules of Golf?” We also like the post “Useful Links on the Rules of Golf”. We strongly encourage you to read and comment on his posts. I can guarantee that you will learn something new about the rules of golf.

Mr Business Golf
Business and golf go hand in hand, but Mr Business Golf, takes it to the next level. “The 10 Deadly Sins of Business Golf” makes for very interesting reading. We also liked the no nonsense post “Why Business Golf is Misunderstood.” This site is definitely worth a visit, especially if you use golf as a business tool.

Brad's Wonderful World of Golf
Previous Winner! Brad is not afraid to say what he thinks. It is probably one of the more outspoken golf blogs we have read. He is obviously a golf nut. I quote, “I play my shots where they come to rest and I live my life in the fairway and the rough as if everyone is watching.”
Brads Golf Blog

Wei Under Par
Stephanie’s was a competitive golfer for 10 years. She has played golf at a level most of us only dream of. She shares her thoughts on fashion, the Tour etc. Anything to do with golf is fair game for Stephanie.

3 Guys Golf
Tom’s blog is full of very well written content. The site also has video (check out the “Tim and Tom Talk Trappist”) and superb photography. I encourage you to click through the archives. If you are lucky, you will find Tom wearing a kilt.
Brads Golf Blog

Pink Diva Golf
There is no doubt that this blog is written by a golfer that LOVES pink! We are big supporters of the women’s game (we recently introduced testing of women’s clubs). This site is one of the best sites we have seen for women golfers.
Brads Golf Blog

PutterZone
This blog is almost exclusively focused on all things relating to putters. For that reason alone, we thought it would be of interest to our readers. Better yet, the content is well written, and thought provoking. “PutterZone.com is dedicated to helping you—the average golfer—improve your putting game through heightened awareness of putter options, putter fitting and putting fundamentals.”
